With so much money to be made at the poker tables nowadays, people will try
anything to get an edge. Reading books written by longtime poker pros and
practicing for fun online are typical ways that fledgling poker players try to
improve their game, but hypnosis? Apparently, a hypnotherapist from Leeds,
England, is cashing in on poker's success in a very unique and innovative way,
without even having to play any poker herself.
Rosemary Owen, a 51-year-old grandmother, has been practicing hypnotherapy for
nearly a decade, but until now she has mostly tried to cure her patients of
phobias and bad habits. Recently, however, Owen has begun using her special
talents and training to help poker players become more focused at the tables.
Her therapy is individually tailored, so one patient might end up developing a
crafty fake facial expression to use when bluffing, while another patient might
be able to sit stone-faced for minutes at a time while opponents are guessing
his or her hole cards. A very unique approach to poker indeed.
